Preferring to describe Thozha as an adaptation rather than a strict remake, Tamannaah said in a recent interview that her character was a combo of the French film’s housekeeper and secretary.
But in Vamshi’s version, Tamaannaah as Keerthi, the secretary, gets into the frame with gutsy gung-ho. The secretary in The Intouchables does not have a great part.
But, well, Philip takes Driss in, much to his annoyance, and then begins his learning curve in a movie that reminds one of The Scent of a Woman, My Fair Lady and The Prince and the Pauper. Now, Philip is tired of all those caregivers, whose intrusive attention is irritating, to say the least. Philip (played by Francois Cluzet), who is paralysed from the neck down after a paragliding accident, is a rich widower who lives with his teenage daughter, secretary, caregiver and housekeeper. It is both funny and touching to see them strike an unusual bond.
Based on a kind of true incident, it is a buddy film about a quadriplegic white millionaire and a rather uncouth black caretaker. The Intouchables is a fascinating piece of celluloid narrative, which this writer saw in 2011. Admittedly, the Indian story has been shot in Paris, Lyon, Belgrade and Hyderabad, and so one supposes a French flavour will be discernible in Thozha/Oopiri. Two weeks ago, Nalan Kumarasamy’s Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum was remade from the Korean picture, My Dear Desperado. Kamal Hassan’s Thoongavanam was recreated from the French Sleepless Night. Tamannaah is an absolute stunner in the film and you will fall for her the moment, she appear on big screen, thanks to the bright color tone and amazing costumes.In recent months, we have seen a string of such Tamil versions of inspiring foreign works. On the other side, Nagarjuna's performance is a slow poison that slowly you a develop a liking for him. Karthi is easily the best actor when comes to executing animated comedies with so much ease and this role of a carefree caretaker has been a cake walk for him. Although all other actors have given their best, we are absolutely smitten by the bond between the two protagonists.ĭirector Vamshi has made necessary changes by adding local favors,may be this is how one should remake foreign films as majority of our audiences are yet to accept films without songs. But while watching the film, those needless songs doesn't affect the flow much, thanks to the solid performances of Karthi and Nagarjuna. The Intouchables is one of the finest films ever made in French but here in Tamil, the makers added item songs and duet, which indeed has disappointed me at first. Frankly the teaser and trailer of the film were not promising that I simply thought that this is going to be yet another ruined version of a classic film.
